Frequently Asked Questions

What materials is Smart Film composed of?

Smart Film is made from a high-quality polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) material, sandwiched between layers of flexible PET film. This composition allows the film to switch between transparent and opaque states when an electrical current is applied.

Unfortunately we aren’t able to provide an exact price as this all depends on how many Smart films are provided as well as the quantity of transformers needed for the electrical installation. Please contact our team for an exact price, however it is approximately between $400 – $600 + GST per square meter.

Smart Film operates using PDLC technology. When an electrical current is applied, the liquid crystal molecules align, making the film transparent. When the power is off, the molecules scatter light, turning the film opaque. It can be controlled via a switch, remote control, smart home automation, or voice commands.

Smart Film can be installed on glass surfaces in a variety of settings, including offices, retail spaces, residential homes, medical facilities, hotels, vehicles, boats, and baches. It is ideal for partitions, windows, doors, skylights, and can also create a surface that can be used as a projector screen.

Smart Film is resistant to moisture and humidity, making it suitable for indoor applications in bathrooms, kitchens, and even marine environments. However, for direct exposure to water or outdoor use, proper sealing and edge protection are recommended.

Smart Film is designed for long-term use and features high durability. It is resistant to scratches, UV rays, and general wear and tear. With proper installation and maintenance, Smart Film can last for approximately 10+ years without performance degradation.

Smart Film is primarily designed for indoor applications. If used outdoors, it requires additional protective layers or laminated glass to safeguard it from environmental factors such as extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and moisture. However the Smart Film on its own is not recommended for outdoor use and we are unable to provide a warranty if this is requested to be installed despite the product being only designed for indoor use.

Smart Film can be integrated with various automation systems, including smart home platforms, motion sensors, timers, voice control (such as Alexa and Google Assistant), and mobile apps. It can also be connected to building management systems for seamless control. Additionally, it can be operated using a traditional wall switch, similar to a standard light switch, for convenient manual control.

To clean Smart Film, use a soft, lint-free cloth with a mild, non-abrasive cleaning solution. Avoid harsh chemicals, excessive water, or rough scrubbing, as these may damage the film’s surface or electrical connections.

Yes, Smart Film can be removed; however, it is designed for permanent or long-term installation. Removal may require professional assistance, and reinstallation may not always be possible without replacing the film.
